On RouteYou, you can publish a news update yourself to highlight a route, event, or other relevant info. With a few simple steps, you can quickly create and share a professional announcement. This keeps the RouteYou community – especially your followers – up-to-date on what's happening in your organization.
This can only be done via the website.
You're just 3 steps away from creating your own news post:
- Log in with your RouteYou account
- Go to the main menu
and select 'News'.
- Choose 'Add a news post'.
Make sure your post includes all the necessary information right away.
THE BASICS (Metadata)
- Name
The title of your post.
Keep your title short, but catchy.
- Publication Date
When your post will become visible.
Don't set this date too early. Otherwise, your news will quickly get pushed down in the overviews.
- Hide Date
When your post disappears.
Specify when the news is 'expired' and should become invisible.
THE CONTENT
Use the text editor to write your complete message.
Tips:
- Structure: Use bullet points for a better overview.
- Visuals: Brighten up your post with a clear photo or your event/organization's logo.
-
Links: Include links to relevant routes or locations on RouteYou, AND to your own website or social media. (This helps search engines find your post better!)
The Call to Action (CTA):
A clear 'Call to Action' is essential! Tell the reader what they need to do (e.g., 'Sign up here,' 'View the route'). This is usually connected to a link that directs to another page.
Select the text of your CTA and add a link using the link icon in the editor.
TIP
Have a Premium account (or higher)? You can turn your link into an eye-catching button:
1. Create a regular clickable link (fill in text and URL).
2. Select the text of this link.
3. In the 'Style' menu, choose the 'Button' option.
You can choose from:
Your post is shown in a few different places on the website (not in the app!):
- In the RouteYou News Feed.
- On your public user page.
We can give your news post extra promotion so it also appears in our newsletter. Depending on their communication preferences, RouteYou users can choose to receive a newsletter weekly or monthly via email.
Do you have news about a good cause or something we might find very relevant? Let us know! If we agree, we'll promote it as a form of sponsorship or support via our newsletter and/or social media.
If the post is more commercial and you want to highlight it, this falls under Sponsored News.
Heads up: Also read the guidelines on what news we allow to avoid SPAM.
Make sure your news post performs well and is easy to read.
TEXT: Shorter is Stronger
- Length: Try to aim for a maximum of 500 characters (symbols). Longer is allowed but not recommended.
- Structure: If you write a longer text, make sure to use clear paragraphs, headings, and bullet points.
-
CTAs: Ensure a clear call to action. Have multiple actions? Place the most important one at the top and in the most noticeable (button) style.
PHOTO: The Eyecatcher
- Ratio: Use a photo that is wider than it is tall (ideal: 3 wide : 2 high).
- Quality: The photo must be at least 1200 pixels wide (preferably 2400+). This keeps it sharp when readers click on it.
- Quantity: We recommend a maximum of 3 photos. Otherwise, it becomes a long scroll session on a smartphone.
-
Placement: Do not place photos inside the text. This doesn't read well on all screens.
Note: Only the first photo is displayed in the news carousel.
