Group members: manage and communicate

Linking members to a RouteYou group has several perks. You can share private routes visible only to group members, chat privately via group messages, and get notifications when someone comments in the group. Depending on your membership type, you’ll have more or fewer rights to manage or edit routes. Communication and teamwork within a group stay simple and clear.

This is only possible via the website.

Management

View member list
  1. Open the group's page
  2. Click the    Edit button.
  3. In the menu, choose    Members.

There you’ll see all members and their role: Owner, Manager or Member

Add members
  1. Go to the member list (see above).
  2. Click below on  Add.
  3. Choose how to add someone:
    • by name: type their username in the search bar and select the right person.
    • by email: enter the email address of the person you want to add.
  4. Click Confirm.

The next steps differ depending on whether the person already has a RouteYou account:

  • Existing RouteYou user
    1. The person gets an invite to join your group.
Only after they accept will they become a member.
  • No RouteYou account yet
    1. They’ll receive a one-time email with:

      • An invitation to register and join your group.
      • A link to the group (only relevant for public groups).
      • A link to a RouteYou info page.

If they don’t register or confirm, no account is created, no membership is activated, and RouteYou won’t use the email for anything else.

TIP
A member can leave a group at any time.

Members’ permissions

THE OPTIONS

In a group, each member has a role. That determines what they can do:

  • Member: sees the group (even if hidden) and can view all routes, including private ones.
  • Author: can link routes to the group even if the group is set so others can't add routes.
  • Manager: can manage members and routes, just like the owner.
  • Owner: created the group and has full rights.

CHANGING RIGHTS

Want to give someone more or less rights? You can only do this if you're an Owner or Manager.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to your group’s page
  2. Click the   Edit button.
  3. In the menu, choose   Members.
At the bottom you'll see the list of linked members.
  4. Click on a member’s current role and choose a new one.
