With a RouteYou Premium account (or higher), you can keep your routes set to 'Private' and still share them with a specific audience. This is the ideal solution for those who want to offer exclusive content without making it publicly searchable.

Normally, only the author can view a private route. When you use the Unlock Route option, you generate a unique link that acts as a digital key:
- The route does not appear in general RouteYou search results.
- The route is not visible on your public profile.
- Only people with the unlock link can view and fully use the route = navigate, download gpx, and print.
You can only do this via the website.
1. MAKING THE ROUTE PRIVATE
To do this, you need to adjust the visibility of your route:
- Go to the route
- Click the 'Edit' button
and choose 'Basic Details'.
- Under the 'Visibility' section, select the 'Private' option.
As soon as the route is set to private, the 'Unlock Route' section will automatically appear at the bottom with the corresponding link.
2. FINDING AND SHARING THE UNLOCK LINK
Once you have confirmed that you want your route to be private, you will have an unlock link. You can find this link in three places:
- On the website, in the 'Basic Details' of your route, under the 'Unlock Route' section.
- On the website, at the top of the 'Route Information' section on the route page itself, right next to the 'Private' status.
- On the website and in the app via the share button
on the route page: the unlock link is included in the options 'Copy link' and 'QR code'.
Benefits for the recipient
When someone opens a private route via the unlock link, they get instant access to all extra features, such as GPX download, online navigation, and printing options. The recipient does not need a paid subscription themselves.

Manage access: Generate a new link
Do you want to revoke access to a previously shared route? You can easily do this by creating a new 'key':
Go to the 'Basic Details' of your route via the 'Edit' button
.
-
Under 'Unlock Route', click 'Generate new link'.
The old link will stop working immediately. Only people to whom you provide the new link will have access to the route.
