With a free RouteYou account, you can view routes and get inspired, but features like navigation, printing, or downloading a GPX file usually require a subscription. Do you have a RouteYou Plus account (or higher)? Then you can unlock your routes. This lets you give friends, family, or event participants the chance to use your routes for free - including those extra features - regardless of whether they have a paid RouteYou subscription themselves.
GOOD TO KNOW
Public routes from a Pro or Enterprise account are unlocked by default. This means visitors can always directly download, navigate, and print these routes without a special link.
Upgrade for more flexibility and sharing fun!
By unlocking a route, you provide the recipient with instant, free access to:
- GPX download: Download the GPX file directly to use on your GPS device, bike computer, or sports watch (e.g., Garmin or Wahoo).
- Online navigation: Start the route directly via the RouteYou app (requires an internet connection).

Printing: Generate a professional route sheet or paper map.
PLEASE NOTE
Offline navigation (without an internet connection) remains reserved for users with their own paid Plus subscription or for routes offered by an Enterprise account.
The type of route you can unlock depends on your subscription:
- RouteYou Plus: You can unlock all your public routes for others.
- RouteYou Premium (or higher): You can unlock both your public and your private routes.
Unlocking happens automatically when you use the correct link:

Via the share button
Click the Share buttonon the route page. The special unlock link is automatically included when you choose:
- Copy link
- QR code

Via the 'Route Information' section
Do you have a Premium account and is your route set to 'Private'? Then you'll also find the unlock link directly at the top of the Route Information section, next to the 'Private' status.
When you set a route to 'Private' as a Premium user, the Unlock Route section appears in the Basic Details (via the 'Edit' button).
Here you can:- Copy the current unlock link.

Generate a new unlock link.
PLEASE NOTE
As soon as you generate a new link, the old link expires immediately. This is useful if you want to revoke access for certain people, but keep in mind that QR codes on old prints will no longer work either.
