Translating a route

Want to make a route available to speakers of other languages? Adding a translation automatically displays your route in the chosen language whenever a visitor searches on the RouteYou website or app.

PLEASE NOTE
Translating a route is only possible for routes where you are the author or co-author.

How do you translate a route's title and description?

  1. Open your route on the RouteYou website.
  2. At the bottom of the information column, click the  more.png 'More' button.
  3. Choose Bewerk Edit.svgEdit and select translation.png Add translation.
  4. In the pop-up window, select how you want to translate:
    • Automatic translation: Select the source language (the language of the original text) and the target language. The title and description will be translated instantly.
    • Manual translation: Enter the title and description in the new language yourself.
  5. Click Confirm.

DID YOU KNOW?
RouteYou sometimes automatically translates high-quality top routes (3 stars and up) into the local language or English? Read all about it in our article on automatic translations on RouteYou.
You can always manually edit or refine automatic translations after saving via your route's basic info.

Important to know

Adding points of interest (POIs) in the new language

A translated route does not automatically adopt the points of interest from the original route, as POIs are language-specific.

To add points of interest to your translated route:

  1. Check if the relevant POIs already have text in the new language. If not, read how to translate a point of interest.
  2. Use POI-PUSH to link the translated points of interest to your translated route. Read how to use POI-PUSH.

One track for all languages

The track (geometry) of your route is language-independent. If you adjust the route's track, it automatically updates across all language versions.

Visibility in search results

Once a translation is added, the route page lists the languages the route is available in. German-speaking users, for instance, will automatically see the German version in search results.
