Editing your route's basic info

Want to change the title, description, type, or visibility of your route, or add a link to an external website? You can easily manage all this information via the Basic info menu.

Editing your route's information is only possible on the website. 

Where can you find basic info? 

  1. Open your route on the RouteYou website.
  2. At the bottom of the information column, click the  more.png 'More' button.
  3. Select Bewerk Edit.svgEdit and click info basic data.pngBasic info.

What is included in basic info?

   Most fields are self-explanatory and can be filled in or updated right away:

  • Language, Name, and Description

  • Visibility

  • Total elevation gain and loss (This is automatically calculated by RouteYou)

  • Nearest address at start/finish

  • GPS name 

   Some fields offer additional features that affect how your route is used or discovered: 

  • Type: Select the icon representing the main activity of your route (such as hiking, cycling, boating, or driving). Then choose the most fitting sub-type. 
       The more accurate the chosen route type, the higher the chance your route will show up in search results.
  • File: Optionally upload a new file (.gpx, .fit, .itn, .kml, .tcx, or .gdb) to update the shape of the route. You can check additional options here:   
    • Import points of interest from file
         If your GPS file also contains information about specific places, you can upload them to RouteYou at the same time. 
    • Recalculate on existing roads where possible

    • Add extra points of interest
         This allows RouteYou to add the most relevant points of interest near your trail to your route. 
  • Co-authors: Add other RouteYou users who are also allowed to edit this route. 
  • Author difficulty rating: Assign your own difficulty level to your route.   
  • Author route score: Assign your own rating to your route.   

Adding references

Use the References section to link external links or source citations to your route:   

  • Link for more information: Enter a full web address (for example https://www.yourwebsite.com). 
       A 'More info' button will appear below the description on the route page, linking to this page.   
  • Source name: State the name of the organization, guide, club, or author on which the route is based.   
  • Link to source: Enter a URL to make the entered source name a direct link.
