Do you want to share your favorite moments from the trail or make a route you've created more visually appealing? On RouteYou, you can easily add photos to a route. Whether you want to capture a stunning view with the app while hiking or cycling, or professionally enhance your own route via the website afterward: your images help the community and complete the route experience.
On this page, we explain how to upload photos, the difference between adding photos to your own routes versus those of others, and where these images will be visible.
You can enrich another author's route with your own photos. This is only possible via the RouteYou App and can be done at three different times:
-
While navigating: Tap the camera icon
on your screen to capture a highlight or a beautiful view.
-
Immediately after navigating: As soon as you stop navigation, the 'Celebration screen' appears. Here you can share the route, give it a rating, and upload photos from your gallery.
-
Afterward via the route page: Did you complete someone else's route and want to add images later? Open the route in the app. You'll find the 'Share your experience' block where you can rate the route or enrich it with your own photos.
Result: When you add photos to someone else's route, they will always appear under the Community photos section.
When you add photos to a route that you authored, they are displayed as official inspiration images. This gives your route a professional look and helps other users choose your route.
In the app, you have three ways to provide your own route with visual material:
-
While navigating: Tap the camera icon
on your screen to take photos along the way. These will be linked directly to the route.
-
Immediately after navigating: Upon ending navigation, the 'Celebration screen' appears. Here you can share the route, give it a rating, and upload photos from your gallery.
-
Afterward via the route page: Open your own route in the app. On the detail page, you'll find the 'Improve your route' block. Here you can give a rating or upload extra photos to make your route more valuable.
On the website, follow these steps to add photos to your own route:
- Log in and open the relevant route.
- Click the 'Edit' button
and choose the option 'Images, videos'.
-
Upload the desired photos.
TIP
Do your photos have location data (geotags)? RouteYou will automatically place them in the correct spot on the map as a Point of Interest (POI).
The first photo you add plays a crucial role. It serves as the cover image for the route and is visible in several places:
- Search results in the RouteFinder.
- The "Routes nearby" list for a specific location.
- The "Featured Routes" on the homepage.
- Lists of recommended routes.
- An author's route overview list.
Make sure your first photo is a real eye-catcher. This significantly increases the chance that other users will click on your route and start following it!
