When you download a route, e.g. as a GPX file, the downloaded file will contain the title of that route. When using the file on a GPS device, it's possible that some GPS devices display the title incorrectly when the title is too long: the title will be truncated. To solve this problem you can give your route a (short) GPS-title which will be stored in the downloaded file instead of the "normal", long title. When no GPS route name is given, the "normal" (larger) route name will be used.
How to enter a GPS route name
- Click on the Edit button
by your route
- Select "Basic data"
- Enter a short route name in the field GPS route name. We recommend a name of max 13 characters as most GPS devices can handle this well (see below).
- Click on Confirm
What you need to know
Some things you should know:
- Some GPS devices cannot show a long name as track/route
- The older Garmin GPS devices only show 13 characters as a name
- The GPX file contains the title of that route (this is NOT the name of the file)
- When no GPS title is entered, the "normal" (long) route name will be used
- We did NOT limit the GPS name to 13 characters so you can still enter a slightly longer name if you want to support specific systems that can handle slightly longer names.
- The GPS name is included in the GPX and KML files
