Want to use an existing route on RouteYou? You can easily upload a GPX file via the website or the app. Once imported, you can edit the route on the website, use it for planning, or start navigating right away.
Features marked with a are available with a RouteYou Plus subscription.
In the app, you can only import GPX files.
Step-by-step guide
- Open the app and make sure you're logged in.
- Locate your GPX file.
- On your smartphone, go to the GPX file you want to import.
Usually in the ‘Downloads’ folder or shared via a link. - Tap the file to open it. Choose ‘RouteYou’ from the list of apps and tap ‘Just once’.
- You’ll now see the upload screen where you can configure the file:
- See the selected GPX file at the top.
- Adjust the activity type (e.g. hiking, road cycling, mountain biking).
- Rename the route (optional).
- Add a route description.
- Choose to:

- Add Points of Interest (POIs):
- From the GPX file (if available).
- Let RouteYou suggest relevant POIs.
- Choose whether the route should be public or private
- Tap save to finalize the import.
Via the website, you can upload different types of GPS files (gpx, gdb, tcx, ...) to RouteYou. You can also edit them immediately after import.
- Log in
- Open the main menu (hamburger-icon
menu top left)
- CHoose 'Plan a route' and then 'Upload a route'
- Select the desired file. ( More info about supported formats

After uploading, you can find your route under ‘My created routes’, , both on the website and in the app.
