Recording a route is a breeze with the RouteYou app. You can also track your path directly in the field using the mobile website or the RouteYou PWA. Whether you're on a spontaneous walk or exploring a new cycling trail, the record function lets you capture your journey exactly as you travel it.
Available with a RouteYou Plus or higher.
Recording a route with the RouteYou app only takes a few simple steps:

Launch the tracker
Tap theRecord button at the bottom right of the homepage.

Start your recording
A map screen will open. Click the gray button to start your recording. We’ll now start tracking your live position.

Pause or stop your recording
While recording, you have two ways to pause or end the session:
OPTION A: PAUSE OR STOP
Click the pause button. You can then choose to:

Resume: Pick up right where you left off.

Stop: End the recording.
When you hit 'Stop', you’ll decide what to do with your track:
Save: Fine-tune your route details (like name, activity type, description, and visibility) and confirm you want to save it.
Your route will now be saved under 'My routes'.
Delete: We’ll ask for a quick confirmation to make sure you really want to permanently delete the recording.
OPTION B: CANCEL IMMEDIATELY
Want to stop and discard the recording right away? Just click the X in the top-left corner. You’ll get the option to delete the recording instantly. -
This feature is available both when you’re navigating an existing route and when you want to track a brand-new path:
Heading out without a pre-planned route and want to track your progress? Just follow these simple steps on your smartphone:
- Open the RouteYou map module. There are a couple of ways to do this:
- The fastest way is to tap the Plan button
at the top and then select ' 
Record a route'. - Or, go to routeyou.com and tap the menu icon
in the top-left corner. Choose 'Plan a route' > 'Record a route'.

The map module will now open.
TIP
Use the "Current position" buttonto quickly zoom in on your location.

Tap the START button
at the bottom right. You can now start recording your route and choose whether to share your position.
GOOD TO KNOW
If you’re not logged in yet, we’ll ask you to sign in so we can link the recorded route to your account.
- Once you’ve reached the end of your journey, tap the STOP button

. First, find or plan a route. Then, open it on your smartphone via the mobile website or the RouteYou PWA.
Follow these steps:

Log in first if needed via the profile icon in the top-right corner.
TIP
Use the Recently viewed feature to quickly jump back to your route. - View the route on the map:
In desktop mode, the map and the list are side-by-side. On smaller screens like tablets or smartphones, there’s not enough space, so you’ll see the option
. Tap it to see the route on the map.
- Tap the START button at the bottom right. You can now start recording and choose to share your position as you go.
- Confirm by hitting the "Start" button. You’re now in navigation mode.
- Follow your path! Feel free to deviate from the original route if you feel like exploring.
- Once you're done, tap the STOP button .
. Tap it to see the route on the map.
After recording:
Once you’ve hit STOP, the recorded route is automatically saved to your account. You can find it there to view or edit further in the route planner.
